Women Work and Community offers individual assistance and group training programs to help entrepreneurs plan, start and grow businesses. We focus on helping the individual business owner build skills, gain confidence, and develop networks that can turn a dream into reality. WWC’s approach is to work with individuals where they are, help them identify their business and personal goals, and provide support as they take steps to reach them. The mission of WWC is to help women succeed in the Maine economy. As a full-service women’s economic development organization, WWC staff are also able to offer assistance with job-seeking and career planning, continuing education, building money management skills, and becoming community leaders, in addition to providing referrals, advocacy, and access to other resources. WWC operates a Microloan fund and, as a member of the Maine Family Development Account Coalition, offers matched savings to eligible individuals interested in saving towards the purchase of a home, capitalization of a business, or education. WWC reaches individuals out of ten Centers and eight outreach sites from Fort Kent to Saco. Funding for the 33 year old organization comes from state and federal contracts and grants, and a range of private sector grants and contributions. WWC is administered by the University of Maine System, University of Maine at Augusta. |
